Compared to the little elephant, a full-grown elephant was just one-sixth of its height. The poor animal lost its balance when the herd decided to cross the river and ended up sliding into a crevice between the river and the bank.

The calf was unable to free itself. The infant was trapped in the gap because the ground was slick with muck. Because the gap was so little, none of the larger adults could go in to aid the infant, and they didn’t actually know-how. They needed to rescue the baby before the water level rose and the elephant drowned, but how would they do it? Photo Credit: Credits
