Spiral galaxy in the Great Bear hides a monster within

Today's Image of the Day from the European Space Agency features the spiral galaxy NGC 4102. This bright spiral of gas, dust, and stars is located about 56 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear.  At first glance, it looks like a classic spiral, but deep within its glowing center lies something much more intense - a supermassive black hole quietly shaping the galaxy around it.
