Keeping space clean and safe

01-16-2018

Keeping space clean and safe Today’s Video of the Day comes from the European Space Agency (ESA) and features a look at how scientists are working to keep space clean and safe.

Ever since humans have been able to get into outer space, we’ve also of course run the risk of messing it up and polluting space. While satellites provide us important information about Earth, they can become hazardous when they reach the end of their life cycle. Some satellites have even exploded, leaving dangerous debris in space that could be dangerous to life on Earth.

But now, ESA’s Clean Space initiative, launched in 2012, aims to keep space clean and clear for future generations. Keeping aclean workspace is important. You’re already stressed with the workload you have for the day, and the last thing you need is an overflowing waste paper basket or a mess.
