Earth from space: Musa Bay, Iran

03-20-2017

Today’s Video of the Day comes courtesy of the European Space Agency’s Earth from Space series and features a look at Musa Bay in Iran using images from the Sentinel-2A satellite.

Musa Bay is located on the northern edge of the Persian Gulf and contains the port city of Bandar Imam Khomeini. The city parks the final point of the Trans-Iranian Railway which connects Tehran to the Persian Gulf.

Lining the top of the bay are evaporation ponds which are used to extract naturally occurring minerals from the ground. To the left sit the marshes that comprise the Shadegan wildlife refuge, the largest wetland in Iran and a habitat for many migratory birds.
