The secret powers of earthworms and other detritivores

Today’s Video of the Day comes from the American Chemical Society’s Reactions series and features a look at the trash-eating animals known as detritivores.

While carnivores enjoy a good burger and herbivores love a salad, these gooey creatures eat dirty, nutrient-rich dead leaves and other forest litter. This clip explains how detritivores like earthworms manage to turn dead plants and decomposing animal bits into compost.
