August Complex Fire has become the largest in California’s history

August Complex Fire has become the largest in California’s history.  Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Goddard features a satellite view of the August Complex Fire, which has now become the largest wildfire in California’s history after burning more than 1,000,000 acres.

The August Complex has been burning for nearly two months after the blaze was ignited by lightning, and is currently only 58 percent contained.

The image was captured by NOAA/NASA’s Suomi NPP satellite.
