Blackfoot horsemen •

These men coming down a mountain excellently illustrate a skill many Native Americans cultivated: unrivaled horsemanship. The riders are from the Blackfoot tribe, and they’re in what is now the Glacier National Park of Montana. Horses were central to the life of the Blackfoot people – as transport, for hunting buffalo, in conflict, and even in ceremonial rituals. Photo Credit: Bettmann/Getty Images
