Dust Storm in Afghanistan • Earth.com

A large dust storm was sweeping across the rugged, arid terrain of southern Afghanistan (top), Pakistan (bottom), and extreme eastern Iran (left edge) on June 6 and June 7, 2004, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA.s Aqua and Terra satellites observed the region. The pale dust dominates the center of the image, while the large sandy deserts of the region appear rust-colored.
