Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows Alaska, where temperatures were unusually hot in March of 2019.

According to the Alaska Climate Research Center, March began with an unsettled weather pattern that brought warm, wet storms to the state. By halfway through the month, a high-pressure ridge developed with clear skies and very warm temperatures.

The event was just part of a warming trend that has been ongoing across the region in recent years.

This image was captured on March 30, 2019 with MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite.
