Wildfires in Arizona and New Mexico

Northeast of Phoenix, Arizona, the 43,000-acre Willow Fire was burning in the Mazatzal National Wilderness on July 1, 2004. This image of the region was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite, and actively burning portions of the fire detected by MODIS are outlined in red. Other named fires include the Nuttall and the Jacket Fire. To the east, an unnamed fire is burning north of Silver City, NM.
