Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the depths of the Cotahuasi Canyon in Peru.
The canyon is one of the deepest in the world, measuring 1.5 to 2.2 miles deep, and formed over the course of millions of years as rivers and glaciers eroded the plateau.
This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
