Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at deforestation in the Gran Chaco plain of South America.

Despite being a dry forest, the Gran Chaco plain is the second largest forest in Latin America, extending across Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay. But about 20 percent of the area has fallen victim to deforestation since 1985, having mostly been converted into farmland.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
