Detwiler Fire near Yosemite National Park • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Detwiler Fire near Yosemite National Park.

The Detwiler Fire was named after the nearby Detwiler Road, located east of Lake McClure in California. According to CalFire, the fire has already burned well over 115 square miles of land, destroying 58 residences and 60 structures, while damaging 11 homes and 6 structures.

This satellite image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite on July 20, 2017.
