The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in New York Harbor

Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in New York Harbor.

The photo was taken by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) onboard the Landsat 8 satellite. The Hudson River feeds into New York Harbor from the north, with Jersey City to the west and magnificent Manhattan to the east.

Liberty Island sits in the center, home to the iconic Statue of Liberty. Ellis Island can be found directly north, with Governor’s Island to the east.
