Sierra Nevada snowpack stays intact heading into summer •

Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the snowpack atop the Sierra Nevada mountains.

The snowpack remains intact heading into summer thanks to an unusual June storm that added more snow to the already-heavy snow cover.

According to the California Department of Water Resources, as of June 14, 2017, the amount of water stored as snow stood at 173% normal for this time of year.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
