Raccoon seen riding on a garbage truck

Raccoons commute to work just like the rest of us. Or at least this one does! Today’s Image of the Day captures a hilarious moment where a raccoon was spotted riding on a garbage truck in Washington DC.

The photo was taken by Politico reporter Helena B. Evich, who posted it on Twitter. Evich alerted the driver to the furry passenger and police helped to transport him to the nearby Larry Graves Park.

“This raccoon is having a rough morning-just wanted some trash and ended up in Rosslyn,” Evich joked on Twitter.

The raccoon has since become an overnight celebrity, as the tweet has been shared more than 7,000 times since its posting.

“We can confirm the raccoon is unharmed and was removed safely for all,” a spokeswoman from American Disposal Services told the Washington Post.

The number of raccoons in urban areas has increased in recent years, leading to a wide variety of interactions with humans.
